KINGSPORT — A man was fatally shot by an acquaintance while they visited a woman's Kingsport home early Wednesday morning, according to police, with the gunman then apparently trying to stage the scene as a suicide.

The Kingsport Police Department reports that after subsequent investigation — and despite "deceptive efforts" on the part of the accused — Quinten A. Shelton, 21, was arrested for second-degree murder and tampering with evidence. The victim has been identified as Zaccari A. Miller, 25, of Kingsport.

About 2 a.m. KPD officers were alerted to the incident at 630 Donelson Drive. Upon arrival, they reportedly located Miller just inside the front door, with a gunshot wound to the back of his head or neck. The alleged weapon used was found in his hand.

Police say Shelton was in the living room with blood on his hands and shirt, but did not appear injured. Also present was an adult female resident, who was not named in the KPD release.
