Johnson City police said a Pennsylvania man attempted to kick the window out of a patrol car three times and spat on an officer after being arrested for driving under the influence on Monday.

Bernard J. Stopera III, 51, Cowansville, Pennsylvania, was charged with DUI, aggravated assault, resisting arrest, not having a license and possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia.

Stopera was pulled over in a blue Ford Ranger at the corner of Nathaniel Drive and North State of Franklin for driving erratically. Stopera smelled strongly of alcohol and failed a sobriety test.  He was also in possession of a glass pipe with residue in it, police said.

Stopera was taken to the Washington County Detention Center and held without bond. He was scheduled to appear in court today.
