Elizabethton woman charged with felony shoplifting

An Elizabethton woman was arrested Friday after police said she attempted to take $750 worth of merchandise from Belk in The Mall at Johnson City without paying. 

Tara T. Collins, 28, Sunrise Drive, was charged with one count of felony shoplifting after being apprehended by loss prevention personnel. 

A press release said personnel observed Collins take merchandise into the women’s restroom on multiple occasions and remove the price tags. She reportedly had the items concealed in her handbag.

Collins was taken to the Washington County Detention Center and held on $5,000 bond. She has a Sessions Court date set for Monday at 1:30 p.m.
