A homeowner returned home after several days to find someone in their home, city police said in a news release.

Officers responded to the home Friday at about 8 p.m. after a call from the homeowner. They said they were able to identify and locate the suspect, Ronald Sams, 53. The homeowner, who was not identified, said Sams was awakened by the homeowner’s return and fled.

Property reported taken from the residence was found in Sams’ possession, officers said. Sams was arrested and charged with burglary, resisting arrest and theft of property under $500. He was held in the Washington County Detention Center on $22,000 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in Sessions Court on Monday at 1:45 p.m.
