On Wednesday, JCPD Officer Jeremiah Hein responded to AAA Oriental Rug, located at 2203 McKinley Road, after a witness reported seeing two men break the store’s front window and load several rugs into a van.
According to the incident report, Hein arrived at the scene at approximately 6:40 p.m., and made contact with the witness - who will not be named - who lives adjacent to the store.
In the report’s narrative, Hein said the witness told him he was sweeping off his front porch when he heard a noise. When he turned to look, he said he saw a white man climbing through a broken window on the front of the store, pulling what appeared to be a rug behind him. The witness added that, once the man was clear of the building, he entered the passenger’s side of a gray 2002 Ford Windstar, which then backed up to the storefront. When the vehicle stopped, the man and another white man exited the van and loaded the rugs into the back.
While the specific number of missing rugs was not included in the narrative, among the stolen merchandise was a Persian rug, valued at $4,500, Indian rugs, valued at $300, and Kingdom rugs, valued at $60.
