ELIZABETHTON — A thief broke into a home being renovated on Lane Hill Road last week and stole tools and building materials valued at more than $3,500.

Carter County Sheriff's Deputy Brady Higgins said the stolen items included 75 sheets of roof shingles, valued at $2,250; 500 feet of copper wiring, valued at $300; 60 feet of copper pipe, valued at $300; a wood stove, valued at $300; a Craftsman table saw, valued at $250; and an 18-inch Homelite chainsaw, valued at $150.

The thief apparently entered the home by breaking out a garage window and prying open the back door.
