ELIZABETHTON — A man who was stopped by a resident on Race Street early Monday morning was charged with aggravated assault after reportedly placing his vehicle in reverse and hitting the resident in the leg.

Steven Waltermyer, 28, 306 E. C St., was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault. Officer Matt Croy said the resident, Daniel Walker, had some scrapes to his leg, but refused treatment by the Carter County Rescue Squad.

Officer John Bulla of the Elizabeathton Police Department responded to the incident and stopped Waltermyer's vehicle on Third Street at 4:30 a.m. A record's check indicated Waltermyer had two outstanding arrest warrants charing him with failure to appear.

Officer Matt Croy questioned Waltermyer about the incident on Race Street. He said Waltermyer admitted to being there. Croy then arrested him on the aggravated assault charge.

Waltermyer is scheduled to appear in Sessions Court on Oct. 28.
