Approximately eight junior high youth members with First United Methodist Church spent a few hours Thursday picking up trash around Founders Park and the Pavilion in downtown Johnson City.
The effort was part of a group initiative called "RAGS," or random acts of grace and service.
In the past, Susan Davidson, director of the youth group, said the RAGS group had previously gone to laundry mats and paid for people to wash their clothes and donated items to the Niswonger Children's Hospital.
"They come out and work very hard," Davidson said.
"It makes them part of their own community. When we start this now, they'll continue to be community leaders as they age."
