Demonstrators lined West State of Franklin at the Commerce Street intersection Thursday evening to protest the death George Floyd, who was handcuffed and in police custody. Floyd died on May 25 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after being pinned down by a white police officer who kept his knee on the back of Floyd's neck until he lost consciousness. Protests have erupted across the country in response to Floyd's death, which was recorded by a bystander and went viral on social media. Another demonstration is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday in the same location near Founders Park.
