As ABC programming moves from its original home at a Kingsport TV station to Johnson City’s WJHL next month, it’s unclear where the new affiliated station will land on local cable and satellite listings.

WJHL announced Tuesday that ABC Tri-Cities would take over the spot on the broadcast channel 11.2 held by MeTV on Feb. 1.

“We are eager to continue to build on our coverage and service to Kingsport and all of the Tri-Cities by adding local news and quality ABC programming, as well as CBS.” said Dan Cates, vice president and general manager of WJHL.

But a spokesman said the station had not yet learned where the channel would land on local cable, as the station was still in negotiating cable locations.

WJHL will continue to broadcast CBS programming on channel 11.

Kingsport’s WKPT had held the ABC affiliation for decades, but George DeVault, president of Holston Valley Broadcasting, announced Monday that WKPT would become an independent station as ABC moved to WJHL. WKPT also will discontinue its local news programming.
