Widespread flooding struck communities across East Tennessee, including the Johnson City area, on Saturday following days of heavy rains. (Videos follow text.)

Buffalo Creek in the Milligan College area, Cane Creek off Princeton Road and other streams flowed over their banks, in some cases blocking roads and affecting residences.

Flood waters covered roads in the Jonesborough and Telford areas, well. David Crockett High School’s parking lot was among the areas covered in water.

The Red Cross opened an emergency shelter for families affected by flooding at University Parkway Baptist Church.

Brush Creek reached flood stage in Founders Park in downtown Johnson City, covering a portion of the park’s sidewalks, and nearby King Creek spilled over into the grounds at Carver Recreation Center.

Staff Writer Kenne Medley has been at the scenes of several flooded locations today and will provide a full report.
