Volunteer tops Tennessee High, tops seeds roll in District 1-AA

CHURCH HILL — The home-standing Lady Falcons pulled off the first-round upset of Tennessee High in four sets 24-26, 25-16, 25-15 and 25-18 behind a huge night from Jersey Wines. She finished with a huge double-double of 24 kills and 27 digs.

Emma Green had 21 digs while Rylee Wines had 18 assists.

For the Lady Vikings, Riley McCracken had a double-double of 23 assists and 15 digs. Kloey Tester had 18 kills and Sydney Freeman had 10.

Volunteer will advance to take on top-seeded Dobyns-Bennett on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Science Hill 3, David Crockett 0

CHURCH HILL — The Science Hill Lady Hilltoppers started off the District 1-AAA tournament with a sweep of David Crockett, 25-15, 25-17 and 25-15.

The Lady ’Toppers will take on Daniel Boone on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Science Hill spoiled Boone’s chances at the regular season last week with a four-set win at home.


Sullivan East 3, Unicoi County 0

BLOUNTVILLE — The Lady Patriots moved on with a sweep of Unicoi County 26-24, 25-14 and 25-21 in the first round of the District 1-AA tournament. 

Gracey Byrd had 10 kills and Zoe Johnson had seven. Ashton Adkins had 30 assists and 8 digs while Hayley Grubb had 25 digs.

East will play top-seeded Sullivan South at 6 p.m. on Tuesday inside thew Dickie Warren Dome in the first semifinal matchup.

Elizabethton 3, Chuckey-Doak 0

BLOUNTVILLE — The Lady Cyclones didn’t have to break too much of a sweat in a quick sweep of Chuckey-Doak 25-11, 25-9 and 25-10. 

Kaitlin Bailey had eight kills while Whitley Maupin and Hannah Boster each had four. Morgan Smith had 10 assists while Josie Lyons had nine. 

Brittany Kitchens led the defense with 12 digs while Deanna Hull had 11. 

Sullivan Central 3, Johnson County 0

BLOUNTVILLE — The home-standing Lady Cougars made quick work of Johnson County in the first round, winning 25-14, 25-12 and 25-9.

The offense was balanced for Central as Elaina Vaughan had nine kills, four aces and two blocks. 

Taylor Wilson had five kills and three aces. Cassadi Cotter and Lexi Cyr each had four kills. Laiken Hoback recorded 19 assists while Parker Hurd led the defense with six digs. 

Sullivan Central will play Elizabethton on Tuesday in the semifinals match that begins at 7:30 p.m.
