Elizabethton takes care of Happy Valley; Providence takes road win over Oak Hill

ELIZABETHTON — The Lady Cyclones won a nonconference volleyball match against Happy Valley 25-12, 25-7 and 25-7 behind a balanced offensive attack.

Every player that logged minutes recorded at least one kill for Elizabethton and they were led by Mattie Davis and Hannah Boster with five kills each. 

Whitley Maupin had 12 assists while Brittany Kitchens had 10. Morgan Smith led the defense with 18 digs.

Boster and Maupin each had 10 aces on the evening as well.

The Lady Cyclones will be back in action on Tuesday at Chuckey-Doak.

Gate City (Va.) 3, Sullivan East 0

GATE CITY, Va. — The Lady Devils earned the sweep 25-17, 25-10, 26-24 over the Lady Patriots.

Ashton Adkins had an all-around effort of seven kills, 23 assists and 11 digs in a losing effort. Also for East, Gracey Byrd and Zoe Johnson each had five kills. Hayley Grubb had a team-best 16 digs.

Volunteer 3, Cherokee 0

ROGERSVILLE — Jersey Wines had 10 kills and 19 digs as the Lady Falcons made quick work of the Lady Chiefs in a 25-19, 25-8, 25-15 victory. Raenah Barton added seven kills for Volunteer.

Other leaders included Hope Bachman with 14 digs, and Emma Green and Josie Stapleton had 10 digs each. Rylee Wines dished out 18 assists and Sydney Dobbs finished with 10 assist.

Morristown East 3, David Crockett 0

JONESBOROUGH — The Lady Hurricanes rocked the Lady Pioneers in a 25-21, 25-23, 25-16 decision. Emma Gouge paced Crockett with 10 kills and six blocks. Maddie Pleasant had 29 digs and Morgan Barkley came up with 15 digs.

CHURCH HILL — Alyssa Chappell scored two goals and Emma Lukens scored the other for the Lady Falcons in their win over the Lady Pioneers. Lauren Grevelle had two assists and Makenzey Smith passed for the other as Volunteer got a winning effort in goal from Erin Smallwood.

Londyn Horton gave the Lady Pioneers the early lead on a penalty kick. Addie Stadler scored on a cross from Lauren Myers for the match’s final goal.


Providence 5, Oak Hill 4

MOUTH OF WILSON, Va. — The Knights won a 3-2 shootout thanks to three saves by goalkeeper Kaedon Pearson.

Josh Gregory had two goals and an assist, while Timmy Boccarossa and Caleb Zepeda scored a goal apiece. Reid Stoltzfus provided two assists for Providence (8-4-3).
