Swimmers from Elizabethton and the surrounding area are invited once again to join the Typhoon Swim Club, a summer program of the Elizabethton City Schools Community Involvement Program. This is an opportunity for swimmers over age seven to improve their technique and participate in regional competitions.

Those interested should attend an informational meeting at the Elizabethton High School Pool on Monday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. Important registration paperwork will be distributed at the meeting. The school is located at 907 Jason Witten Way.

“We develop swimming skills and stroke techniques, focusing primarily on the four competitive strokes,” Coach Jes Sutton said. “This is a good opportunity for families, college students home for the summer and teens to improve their skills and be active.”

Club members do not need to have prior experience, but they do need to be able to swim the length of the pool without floatation devices. The club, an affiliate of the Northeast Tennessee Summer Swim League, will participate in five to eight swim meets throughout the summer, concluding with a regional meet at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.

Registration will take place Monday, Feb. 26, at 6 p.m., and Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m. at the pool. Practice will begin on March 5 at 4 p.m. at the EHS pool, with regular practices taking place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 4-6 p.m.

The fees to participate are $50 for registration and $110 monthly. Discounts are available for advance payment of all five months, or for families with multiple children participating. The program will run through July.
