Smoking to be banned from entire Kingsport Aquatic Center property

MATTHEW LANE, NET News Service • May 23, 2016 at 1:35 PM

KINGSPORT — As of July 1, the entire campus of the Kingsport Aquatic Center and the Greater Kingsport Family YMCA will be smoke and e-cigarette free.

Both indoors and out.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen is expected to give final approval for the measure and establish the fine for noncompliance next month. Smoking has long been banned from inside city buildings, but under state law municipalities do not have the power to ban smoking outdoors on government-owned property, such as parking lots, parks and greenbelts.

More on the smoking ban from the Kingsport Times-News.
