TDOT to halt interstate construction for Easter

The Tennessee Department of Transportation will suspend all interstate construction this week to help Easter holiday traffic flow more smoothly.

Construction will stop at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, and will remain on hold until Monday, April 22, at 6 a.m., according to a press release sent by the department Monday. TDOT said the measure will “provide maximum roadway capacity” for those traveling across the state this weekend, but that motorists may still encounter delays from long-term lane closures that will still be in effect.

TDOT also asked drivers to use increased caution in construction zones, as some workers may still be present. Reduced speed limits will still be in effect. To ensure safety, drivers should never tweet, text or talk on the phone while driving.

For more information, visit www.TNSmartWay.com/Traffic for the latest construction activity and live streaming of SmartWay traffic cameras, dial 511 from any land-line or cellphone for travel information or visit @TN511 on Twitter. TDOT encouraged drivers to check travel conditions before leaving.
