The moratorium will begin at noon on Friday, May 25, and last through 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29.
In a news release from the department, TDOT Commissioner John Schroer said the measures will lessen congestion during the busy travel weekend.
There may still be some lane closures or restrictions around long-term construction projects, and reduced speed limits in work zones will still be in effect.
AAA estimates more than 41.5 million Americans will travel this Memorial Day holiday, nearly 5% more than last year. This marks the highest travel volume on record since 2005 for the holiday. An estimated 727,000 Tennesseans will drive to their Memorial Day travel destinations.
