Date for Vols' football opener moved

When given the opportunity to add some electricity to its season-opening football game, Tennessee took advantage.

UT announced Friday that it has moved its game against Appalachian State from Saturday, Sept. 3, to Thursday, Sept. 1. Kickoff will be 7:30 p.m. and the game will be televised by SEC Network.

“The opportunity to open up on a Thursday night at Neyland Stadium, it’s going to be electric,” Tennessee coach Butch Jones said in a teleconference on Friday.
