KINGSPORT—After Unaka walloped North Greene in the winners’ bracket final of the District 1-A softball tournament, Cloudland joined the Lady Rangers as a regional qualifier.

Erupting for 12 fourth-inning runs to break up a close game, the Lady Rangers went on to prevail 16-3 in five innings on Wednesday at Sullivan North. That dropped the Huskies into the losers’ bracket final, where they were dealt an 11-1 five-inning loss by Cloudland.

Weather permitting, Unaka and Cloudland will be back at North for Thursday’s 5:30 p.m. championship. No matter the outcome — the Lady Highlanders need two wins to claim the title — both teams are assured regional berths.

Alana Parsons struck for a grand slam and tripled in a 3-for-3, 5-RBI performance for Unaka. Erika Potter clubbed a pair of two-run home runs and Taylor Shanks belted a solo round-tripper.

Lilie Kiser and Madison Pierce each added two hits, including a double.

The Lady Huskies were topped by Ally Brown at 2 for 2 with a pair of RBIs and Abby Keyes going 2 for 3.

Kenzie Birchfield hurled a five-hitter for the Lady Highlanders, who used a seven-run second inning to take control against North Greene.

Heaven Caraway doubled and tripled in a 2-for-2, 3-RBI showing, with Cloudland teammate Gracie Cook finishing 2 for 2. Cook also accounted for a sacrifice fly.

Going 2 for 4, Jasmine Birchfield matched Caraway by producing a double, triple and three RBIs. Leah Birchfield added a two-bagger.

North Greene’s Abi Laws, Eliza Brown and Jada Antonelli all went 1 for 2. Katie Roberts doubled.
