BLUFF CITY—The long ball served Unicoi County well versus Elizabethton in the District 1-AA softball tournament on Friday at Sullivan East.

The top-seeded Lady Blue Devils (32-8) pounded three home runs in a 10-0 victory over the Lady Cyclones (13-19).

Friday opened when Sullivan Central (6-19) eliminated Happy Valley (10-26) in a 9-7 game. The other winners’ bracket contest unfurled with Sullivan East knocking off Sullivan South 12-3.

Monday’s slate of contests begins with Unicoi County taking on Sullivan East at 5:30 p.m. in the winners’ bracket final. At 7 p.m., Sullivan Central plays Elizabethton in an elimination contest.

Sullivan South returns to action on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. against the winner of Sullivan Central and Elizabethton.

Unicoi County 10, Elizabethton 0 (5 innings)

Pitcher Allee Griffith hit a two-run home run in the first to help herself. The next inning, Carly Kinsler belted a solo homer to left before Haley Hawkins boomed a two-run shot.

Griffith and Kinsler both had two hits in the contest.

Griffith tossed the complete-game shutout with just a pair of Elizabethton hits. She struck out four Lady Cyclones.

Home runs were a part of the Lady Patriot offense. The bottom of the first saw Chelsea Sams belt a three-run home run. Emma Timbs added a home run of her own later in the opening frame.

Sullivan East posted five runs in the fourth inning, after two outs were recorded, to build an 11-1 advantage.

Cierra Southerland had a 3-for-4 effort for the Lady Warriors.
