Lady Hilltoppers edge past Greeneville, 5-4

GREENEVILLE—Mackenzie Powell’s sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning lifted Science Hill to a 5-4 victory over Greeneville on Thursday.

Jayden Salts opened the inning with the second of her two walks on the day, Abigail Taylor came through with a one-out single and Shayna Price reached on an error to load the bases — setting up Powell to drive home courtesy runner Gia Hickman.

Powell and Taylor had two hits apiece for the Lady Hilltoppers, who got a two-run home run from Jannon Glaspie. Salts doubled in a 1-for-1 effort.

Bree Presnell earned a complete-game win, yielding two earned runs and posting three strikeouts against one walk.

North Greene 11, University High 4

University High was sticking close to North Greene, but the Lady Huskies cut loose for a five-run fifth before closing out an 11-4 Watauga Valley Conference triumph.

Katy Stancil batted 2 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs for the Lady Bucs, who trailed by just two runs (6-4) entering the fifth. Emily Morgan also batted 2 for 3.

Yielding three earned runs, Abby Laws won from the circle. Laws also had two doubles as the Lady Huskies earned a share of the league championship, tying Cloudland and Unaka.

Seven of the runs surrendered by UH pitcher Avery Kibelbek were unearned.

GIRLS SOCCER

Providence Academy 7, Temple Baptist 0

KNOXVILLE—Emma Wolfe punched in three goals and Victoria Davis accumulated four assists on Friday, sending Providence Academy to a trouncing of Temple Baptist.

Maddie France, Sydney Olds, Lita Lemmon and Taylor Reid contributed a goal apiece. Gracie Thompson had two saves, with fellow Lady Knights goalkeepers Callie Burchette and Lemmon recording one apiece.
