University High opened the District 1-A girls’ soccer tournament in style. Grace Moreland made sure of it.

Moreland scored four goals and the Lady Bucs went on to a 7-0 victory over West Greene in the semifinals Tuesday night at Civitan Park.

“Every person I sent on the field gave 100 percent and I could not be happier,” UH coach Ryann Williams said. “Everything we do in practice has literally come to life on this field tonight. It was awesome.”

Clara Lipcomb, Courtney Henley and Faith Harrison also scored for UH, which improved to 5-6-1 and will play at Chuckey-Doak in the district championship game Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Win or lose Thursday, UH has advanced to the Region 1-A tournament.

“I am ecstatic,” Williams said. “They have worked so hard.”

Madelyn Horne and Makenna Oiler each had two assists, while Elizabeth Weems and Ruth Toah each had one.

Moreland got things started with a goal four minutes into the game. It came on the back end of a corner kick from Oiler. Moreland scored two more times in the first half and the rout was on.

The Lady Bucs lost 5-0 to Chuckey-Doak earlier in the season but held the Black Knights to a 0-0- draw last week.

West Greene finished its season 0-15. Three of UH’s five wins have come against the Buffaloes.
