Paige Carlsen and Sophia Youngman each had two goals for the Lady ’Toppers. Savannah Fields, Tori Sparks and Riley Cox were the other scorers for Science Hill.
“Some of our younger players played quite well today,” Science Hill head coach David Strickland said. “One of the things we talked about was good combination play in the final third of the field and saw a lot of that.”
Science Hill (10-2) was up 4-0 at the half and was playing most the game on Boone’s half of the field, but the Lady Trailblazers (5-5-1) were able to corral the ball a few times and give themselves opportunities.
However, the Science Hill defenders played well throughout the game.
In the second half, Carlsen netted her second goal in the 54th minute and no less than five minutes later, Sparks followed with her goal.
Science Hill only allowed Boone to have two opportunities in the second half, both of which were not converted. Science Hill got off 18 shots, 11 on goal. Boone had just four shots and one was on-goal.
The Lady ’Toppers will host Jefferson County on Tuesday and Strickland says it will be a tough test.
“It’s going to be a good match. They’re a very physical, forward playing team,” he said. “They’re going to be tough to go against. They’ve only lost two games on the season. We have to be sharp tomorrow.”
