Tennessee Lt. Gov. Randy McNally calls for House Speaker Glen Casada to resign

NASHVILLE — Strengthening his position yet again, Lt. Gov. Randy McNally on Friday called for House Speaker Glen Casada to step down from his leadership post.

"When asked my personal opinion on the matter, I can only answer honestly," McNally said in a statement. "I believe it would be in the best interest of the legislature and the state of Tennessee for Speaker Casada to vacate his office at this time.”

A spokesman for McNally clarified that the lieutenant governor believed Casada, currently in the midst of a scandal involving sexually explicit and misogynistic text messages and the promotion of a chief of staff who had admitted to using cocaine in the state legislative office building, should step down as speaker, and not from his House seat altogether. More from the Tennessean.
