Thursday’s qualifying deadline for November’s town elections in Erwin and Unicoi set a field of six candidates for three aldermen seats up for vote in Erwin and five candidates for two aldermen positions in Unicoi.

In Erwin, candidates for the aldermen posts currently held by Gary Chandler, Mark Lefever and Virgil Moore include the three incumbents and three challengers, former Erwin Alderman Michael Baker and newcomers Timothy Shelton and Stephen Wilson.

In Unicoi, candidates for the aldermen currently seats held by Kathy Bullen and Roger Cooper include the two incumbents, Debbie Bennett, Wanda Wilson Radford and Charlene L. Thomas.

Election Administrator Sarah Bailey said while each of the candidates’ filing papers appeared to be in order following the qualifying deadline at noon on Thursday, the Election Commission will meet to review and authorize their candidacy petitions at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28.

The elections in the two towns are set for Tuesday, Nov. 6.
