Blackburn, Bredesen fair well in NE Tennessee senate votes

Northeast Tennessee’s upper five counties mirrored statewide results in their votes for Tennessee’s next U.S. senator.

Republican U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn will face former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen in November having won their respective party’s nomination on Thursday. The new senator will succeed retiring Republican Bob Corker.

Carter County

Republican Primary: Blackburn 7,040 (84.24 percent), Aaron L. Pettigrew 1,317 (15.76 percent).

Democratic Primary: Bredesen 941 (89.36 percent), John Wolfe 57 (5.41 percent) and Gary Davis 55 (5.22 percent).

Johnson County

Republican Primary: Blackburn 2,723 (80.61 percent), Pettigrew 655 (19.39 percent).

Democratic Primary: Bredesen 466 (83.96 percent) Wolfe 45 (8.11percent) Davis 44 (7.93 percent).

Sullivan County

Republican Primary: Blackburn 16,363 (82.42 percent), Pettigrew 3,491 (17.58 percent).

Democratic Primary: Bredesen 3,412 (89.09 percent), Davis 226 (5.90 percent), Wolfe 192 (5.01 percent).

Unicoi County

Republican Primary: Blackburn 2,202 (83.47 percent), Pettigrew 436 (16.53percent).

Democratic Primary: Bredesen 683 (83.19 percent), Davis 79 (9.62 percent), Wolfe 59 (7.19 percent).

Washington County

Republican Primary: Blackburn 11,409 (84.49 percent) Pettigrew 2,095 (15.51 percent).

Democratic Primary: Bredesen 3,088 (90.61 percent), Davis 168, (4.93 percent), Wolfe 152 (4.46 percent).
