I have been to the Carter County shelter on several occasions, and I’ve visited The Bridge Home, but I have never driven to Erwin to speak the folks at the Unicoi County shelter. It seemed like a good opportunity to remedy that oversight.
The shelter is under new management, and it seems as though they are transitioning well. The animals were all eager to see someone - anyone - step through the doors, and I got to spend some time with some wonderful prospective pets. The animals were clean, well fed, and in good spirits —all signs of a good staff, and a good crop of local volunteers —but they can always use more help.
If you have the time, and the inclination, spend it with the folks at the shelter. It will pay off big time, and they’ll all be very thankful you did. Almost as much as you’ll be.
You can visit the Unicoi County Animal Shelter at 185 N. Industrial Drive in Erwin, or visit online at unicoicountyanimalshelter.com. You can also call at 423-743-3071.
