She moved to Johnson City where she helped start Watauga Insurance in 1974. Barbara received an award for “Outstanding Insurance Woman” of the year in 1981, and was the Vice President of Watauga Insurance up until her retirement in February of 2009.
Those left to cherish Barbara’s memory include her daughter, Becky Parkinson Segrest and her husband Craig, grandchildren: Ashley Ann Turner and her husband, Josh, and Cody Allen Segrest; great grandchildren: Gracelyn Kate Turner, and Levi Ford Turner; sister Jean Dodson Arrants, several nieces and nephews, and her very special friend, June Griffitts.
Barbara’s family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Alan Forbush, Silver Angels home health workers, and the staff at NHC Health Care especially Station 1 and Station 4 nurses.
