Effie was born in Carter County, Tennessee to the late Horace and Katie Williams Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Gracie Thomas and Ruth Taylor; and four brothers, Carl Bowers, Floyd Bowers, Lawrence Philmore Bowers and Charles Bowers.
Effie had worked as a retail clerk at Giant Supermarket and also at Food Lion. She was a strong, caring Matriarch of five generations and she maintained a special relationship with each and every family member. Effie also had a love and talent for gardening.
Those left to cherish her many wonderful memories include her son, Jimmy Buckles and wife Angie; two daughters, Hildred Presnell and Patsy Belt; two grandchildren, Shatona Williams and Johnathan Colbaugh; four great grandchildren, Melanie Arnett, Victor Ramirez, Carlos Ramirez and Hayden Colbaugh; two great great grandchildren, Cheyenne Thomas and Easton Arnett; a sister, Wanda Bice; a special son-in-law, Roger Colbaugh; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Bowers.
A graveside service to honor the life of Effie Jane Bowers Buckles will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Monday, May 18, 2020 in the Pearl Bowers Cemetery with Reverend Randy Johnson and Reverend Nick Colbaugh, officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 PM on Monday.
