Diane was born on June 4, 1938 to Thomas “Tom” Edward Mitchell and Thelma Sell Mitchell in Johnson City. She proudly attended Cumberland University and ETSU. She was also a very active member in the Junior League of Johnson City and the Eastern Star in her earlier years.
Diane was of the Catholic faith and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Diane was a passionate animal lover and especially loved her cats. She was an avid Tennessee Vol fan always looking for a lucky spot for the win. Most of all, Diane will be remembered for being a very devoted daughter, caring and loving friend, and proud and protective mother raising two strong and successful girls as a single parent.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Thelma Mitchell; sister, Tommie Sue Smith; and special cousin and friend, Joan Sell.
Those left to cherish Diane’s memory include her daughters, Suzan Sell Mitchell (husband Bradley Winstead) of Johnson City and Julie Mitchell Griffin of Nashville, Tennessee; grand fur babies, Simon, Smokey, Jolly, Neyli, Knox, Jonesi, Reggie, and Rockitop; nephew, Miller Smith; special cousin and friend, Linda Gyurcsik (John) along with many other cousins that meant so much to her.
Diane’s family will receive friends from 1:30pm to 2:30pm on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
