Jim was born in Jonesborough, TN to the late William Edgar Reed and Emma Lowe Reed. He was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church where he served many years as a Deacon. He was also a member of the Johnson City Amateur Radio Club and the Masonic Lodge. In addition, he served as Treasurer for Tri-Cities Hamfest for several years. Jim faithfully served his country in the Korean War during the years of 1952-1953.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Ruth Geneva Adams Reed, a daughter, Debra Jean Reed Church, and five of his six siblings: Shirley Ann Reed Hughes, Willie Ruth Reed Osborne, Frank Lowe Reed, Fred Willis Reed, and Joy Rebecca Reed Hughes.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Carol Ann Church (husband, Gary); Granddaughters: Leslie Church, Tiffany Cook, and Haley Lingerfelt; and Great-Grandchildren: Kian Church, Cassidy Church, Brayzin Cook, Carter Cook, Katelynn Lingerfelt, and Dani Lingerfelt; and a sister: Glenna Mae Reed Barron.
The family of Jim Reed wishes to say a special Thank You to their “family” at Elmcroft Senior Living. You made it possible for the last years of Jim’s life and his last days with his loving wife, Ruth, to be lived in loving care and luxury.
The family of Jim Reed will receive friends on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Morris Baker Funeral Home. Graveside service will be immediately following at Monte Vista Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to either Pinecrest Baptist Church, 2129 Old Lewis Rd., Johnson City, TN 37601 or University Parkway Baptist Church, 219 University Parkway, Johnson City, TN 37604.
