James Lewis Cox

BRISTOL, VA - James Lewis Cox, age 88, of Bristol, VA passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Christian Care Center of Bristol

He was born September 28, 1931 in Jonesborough, TN to the late Ralph and Edith Clark Cox.   He was a graduate of Boones Creek High School and attended ETSU.  He joined the Air Force in 1951, where he gained the rank of Staff Sergeant and served during the Korean War.   He was a member of Boones Creek Christian Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder, taught the Mary Keefauver Class and a member of the choir.  

He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Beverly Aycock. 

Survivors include his wife, Joanne Barb Cox; daughters, Nola (Randy) Sprinkle and Ginger (Bill) Stevens; sons, Barry Bright, Bobby Bright and Bartley Bright; sister, Margaret (David) Saylor; thirteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; nephew, Michael (Donna) Saylor; and nieces, Sandra (John) Conley and Carol Utsman.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Boones Creek Christian Church, 2684 Boones Creek Rd., Johnson City, TN with David Clark, Minister officiating.   Burial will follow in Monte Vista Memorial Park.   Pallbearers will be Blake Bright, Barrett Bright, Landon Sprinkle, Preston Sprinkle, Chad Murray, Lee Sorah and Michael Saylor.  The family will receive friends from 12, Noon – 1:00 P.M., prior to the service at the church.
