He was the son of Charley Lester Broyles and Stella Erwin Broyles, born to them on September 20, 1926 in Washington County, Tennessee. Ross was a World War 2 veteran, having served his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of Cherry Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Ross was a bus driver in Washington County for 42 years which included driving for David Crockett High School athletics, band and food truck. He was a lifelong farmer, a member of the Washington County Co-Op, and a lifetime member of the Lamar Ruritan.Ross united in marriage to Willie Harold Broyles and to this union, five children were born.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Willie Broyles; Siblings: twin brother; Roy Broyles, Raymond Broyles, Birdie Painter, Marie Phillips, Nanny Stanton, Odie Broyles and Oscar Broyles.
He is survived by five children: Ross “Ricky” Broyles Jr. (Fretia), William “Bill” Broyles (Karen), Karen Campbell (Gary), Renee Freeman (Rick) and Robin Banks (Danny); Nine Grandchildren: Angie Tolley (Steven), Shane Broyles (Melony), Jason Andes (Stacee), James Padgett (Tonya), Billy Broyles, Lee Broyles (Christina) Melanie Little (Matthew), Clinton Freemon and Benjamin Banks; Ten great-grandchildren: Harrison & Hayden Tolley, Carl, Kyrie, Rebekah & Harlee Andes, Samantha & Evan Padgett, Malachi Curtis and Raleigh Little; His caregivers: Brianne Gilliam, Cary Davis, Hillary Hensley, and Sentinel Home Care; His special friend, Pat Stout. Ross is also survived by a host of many other relatives and friends, left behind to cherish his memory.
Funeral services for Ross Refford Broyles, Sr. will be conducted on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at the Cherry Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Scott Hays officiating and grandsons serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of the Cherry Grove Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at the Cherry Grove Baptist Church after 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. The family will also receive friends at the home of Ross on Monday, February 3, 2020 after 11:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M.
