He was a native of Ohio and son of the late Cleveland and Willie Greene Rainey.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Jean Lewis, and his brother, Dewey Rainey.
James proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy.
Those left to cherish James’ memory include his daughters: Melissa Rainey, Christina Rainey, Margaret Cameron and her husband Jonathan; seven grandchildren, sisters: Shirley Cornell and her husband Robert, Mary King; several nieces and nephews, and special friend Lucy Schuldt.
The family will greet friends to share memories of James’ from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Friday, January 31, 2020 in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City. A Graveside service will follow at 2:00 pm at New Bethel Cemetery in Piney Flats with Mr. David Ensminger officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to the Washington County Animal Shelter, 3411 N. Roan Street, Johnson City, TN 37601.
