A native of Green Mountain NC, she was a daughter of the late Floyd B. and Ethel Johnson Peterson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ted Tipton who passed away on December 1st, 2018. Wanda was a 1952 graduate of Tipton Hill High School and an active member of Peterson Chapel Brethren Church, where she was the Superintendant for a number of years. She taught craft making at Mayland Technical College for a number of years and was a faithful participant at the Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair, where she made quilts, dolls, aprons and various crafts. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother and sister.
Surviving is her daughter, Donna Tipton Charlton and husband, Mike, of Burnsville, NC; sister, Juanita Gouge, a resident of The Waters in Johnson City, TN; brother-in-law, Stanley Tipton of Erwin, TN and sisters-in-law, Barbara Miller and Betty Tipton both of Green Mountain, NC. Several cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, December 13th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Randy Griffith, Rev. Jim Griffith and Rev. Terry Long will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. An additional funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Ledford Funeral Home in Erwin, TN with Rev. Randy and Jim Griffith will officiate. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memory Gardens.
