Gary was born in Johnson City, TN on July 25, 1935, to the late James E. and Hazel Reed Bower. In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by his wife Laura Wilson Bower, a sister Kay Foster, and his daughter Nancy Bower.
Gary was a Veteran of the Unites States Air Force, serving 10 years as an aircraft mechanic. After leaving the military, Gary worked as a millwright, proudly working in many places over the years. In his free time, Gary enjoyed fishing and watching Tennessee Football.
Those left to cherish Gary’s memory are his sons David Bower and wife Tammy and Gary Bower, Jr.; daughters Brenda Miller, Cindy Hall, Lisa Bower, Debbie Carter and husband Bill, and Kathy Pleasant and husband Anthony; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Gary Bower at 2 pm on Thursday, September 5, 2019, in the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel at Hux & Lipford Funeral Home. Pastor Dan Foster and Rev. Anthony Pleasant will officiate the service. The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 pm prior to the service. Graveside services will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain City, TN with Military Honors accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard.
