Verlin “Bill” Ford

Verlin “Bill” Ford, 85, went home with the Lord on August 22, 2019 in Johnson City, Tennessee after a short illness.

He was born in Gray to Addie Price Ford and Stewart Ford. He was married to the love of his life and lifelong companion, Shirley Hall Ford for 66 years.

Mr. Ford worked 40 years for Tennessee Eastman Company in the Tenite Division. He coached baseball during the summers at Gray, was former member of the Gray Ruritan Club, the Gray Volunteer Fire Department, Sinking Creek Masonic lodge, and a 32rd degree Mason, and he was well known in local square dance as a caller and an instructor. At the age of 80, he started making wooden bowls and was known for his workmanship. He was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church and a member of the senior choir.

Mr. Ford was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, R.S “Bud” Ford; two sisters, Wanda Ford and Sue Ford Gouge, two brothers-in-law, Leighton Gaby and Joe Bacon, and a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Bombailey Ford.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years; brothers, Harold Dean Ford (Madeline); Tim Ford of Limestone, TN; three sisters-in-law, Madeline Ford, Angie Gaby, Jerri Bacon, all of Gray; two sons, Dr. Victor Ford (Cindy) of Hope, Arkansas and Stephen Ford (Pam) of Knoxville, TN; a grandson, Nathan Ford (Abby) of Ooltewah, TN; three granddaughters, Christine Sams (Chad) of Lewisburg, WV, Makenzie Ford and Natalie Ford of Knoxville, TN; and three step-grandchildren, Daniel Hamilton (Kyla), Adam Hamilton (Courtney), and Emily Davis (Kelly) all of Hope, AR, six great grandchildren, Skyler Ford, Cooper Ford, Logan Cox, Kennedy Hamilton, Karson Hamilton, and Gunner Davis, and many nieces and nephews.

The Ford family will gather to greet friends and share memories from 5pm-7pm Saturday August 24, 2019 at Colonial Heights Baptist Church. A Funeral Service will follow at 7pm with Dr. Greg Burton and Dr. Greg Whitlock officiating. A Graveside Service will be conducted Sunday August 25, 2019 at Washington County Memorial Gardens beginning at 2pm. Everyone who wishes to attend the Graveside is asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:50pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Colonial Heights Baptist Church, 108 Colonial Heights Rd. Kingsport, TN 37663.
