Master Sargent Wiley Carroll Carver, United States Air Force retired

Master Sargent Wiley Carroll Carver, United States Air Force retired, St. Cloud, FL, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2019 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Elizabethton, TN.

Born January 8, 1926, in Knoxville, TN, he was son of Charles Francis and Della Jane Leach Carver. His family moved to Greeneville, TN where his father was a superintendent at the Andrew Johnson National Cemetery. Wiley Carroll attended school in Greeneville, TN before moving to Johnson City, TN where he attended and played fullback for the Science Hill Hilltoppers.

Before graduating, he enlisted in the Unites States Army Air Corps at 17 during World War II. Wiley Carroll also served in the Korean War. During his time in the military he was able to visit many different beautiful countries. His tour of duty also included time at the North Pole. In honor of Wiley Carroll’s service to his country, he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation of Germany Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Medal and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. He was a career Air Force Flight Engineer for 22 years 0 months and 16 days.

Wiley Carroll had a passion for learning. He was an avid reader of the Encyclopedia and freely shared the knowledge he gained with others. He never met a stranger and loved to talk which kept him young at heart.

He retired in Florida where he spent many happy years riding his Gold Wing and touring the country from the east coast to the west coast until the age of 82. He loved young people and served as a volunteer bus driver for the St. Cloud Bulldog Band and assisted with the track team.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace M. Carver, two sisters Grace Cummings and Dorthea Disney.

Those left to love and cherish his memory are, Children: Sherri Carver Longbrake and husband Mark of St. Cloud, FL, Ron Carver of Ormond Beach FL and Judy Carver DeLoach and husband Victor DeLoach of Elizabethton, TN. Grandchildren: Julia Carver, Tiffany Jenkins, Joey Garrison and husband Josh, Whitney Taylor, Joseph Taylor and wife Leslie and Vic DeLoach. Five Great Grandchildren: Sydney Jenkins, Trenton Taylor, Jensen Garrison, Kathryn and Emma Taylor

The family would like to thank his precious caregivers in St. Cloud, FL and the wonderful staff and sitters at Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Elizabethton, TN.

A military graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at the Andrew Johnson National Cemetery in Greeneville, TN. Military Honors will be provided by the Honor Guard from Shaw Air Force Base, Sumpter, South Carolina. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday.
