Dorothy C. Gardner

JOHNSON CITY - Dorothy C. Gardner, 89 of Johnson City, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019.

She was a native of Middletown, CT and daughter of the late Louis and Christine Barry Ruffino.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Roger A. Gardner, her sister, Delores C. Ruffino, brothers: John L. Ruffino, Sebastian T. Ruffino.

Dorothy was a member of First Christian Church, Johnson City, where she enjoyed being a member of the Win-A-Kuple Sunday School class. Dorothy volunteered her time with Johnson City Medical Center Hospital Volunteer Services for many years. She and her dear friend, Mary Neatherly, were well known as the “cookie ladies” because they delivered fresh baked cookies to the hospital waiting rooms.

Those left to cherish Dorothy’s memory include her children: Cynthia C. Sitz of Niantic, CT, Jeffrey J. Zolnik of Fort Wayne, IN; and Noel A. Gardner and his wife Jill of Johnson City, TN; grandchildren, Felicia Jelm, Dawn Walden, Charles Thomas, Justin Zolnik, Lynsey Burd, Jonathan Zolnik, Sydney Gardner, Nicholas Gardner, and Lauren Gardner; 16 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mary Neatherly and Mary Ellen “Mert” Gibson were very special friends.

The family will gather with friends to share memories on Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 12:00 pm until a Celebration of Dorothy’s Life at 2:00 pm in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City. A graveside service will follow at Washington County Memory Gardens. Charles Thomas, Nicholas Gardner, Jonathan Zolnik, Brennen Howe, Austyn Howe and David Klima will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Mended Hearts Chapter 259, 608 North Hills Drive, Johnson City, TN 37604.

The family would like to thank Avalon Hospice for the exemplary care that they helped provide during Dorothy’s illness. Meghan, Brittany and Bethany are all extraordinary caregivers and we will be forever grateful for the exquisite care that they each provided.
