Mr. Perkins was born in Butler, TN to the late Robert Greene Perkins, Sr. and Esther Wagner Perkins on December 3, 1926 but he lived most of his life in Carter County. He was a member of Mountain City First Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Perkins retired from Beaunit Fibers where he was Supervisor of the electrical department. He also taught electronics for a few years at the Elizabethton Vocational School. He was an active member of the Elizabethton V.F.W., the American Legion and the Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Christine Hill Perkins, his second wife, Georgia Nell Pierce Perkins; his brothers, E.F. Perkins, Ernest Perkins, Otis Perkins and Leroy Perkins and by sisters, Cleo Osborne and Nell Forrester. Survivors include his daughter, Janie Sams and husband Eddie; step-daughter, Caroline McGlamery and husband Lawrence; his grandchildren, Sherri Pearce and husband Joe and Kristi Cole and husband Lee; great-grandchildren, Joshua Lewis, Haley Clawson and husband Chris, Kristopher Cole and wife Kaitlyn and John Cole; great-great-grandchildren, Jaden Burem, Tanner Clawson, Sadie Clawson and Annie Lewis and his sister, Nova Lee Hatch. Many special nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mr. Robert Greene (R.G.) Perkins, Jr. will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 11, 2019 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Mr. Danny Cullop and Pastor Roy Wilson officiating. Mr. Bobby Osborne will give the eulogy. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday prior to the service or at his residence at any time.
Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 12, 2019 in the Whitehead Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Joe Pearce, Joshua Lewis, Lee Cole, Kristopher Cole, John Cole, Edward Perkins, Eddie Sams, Marvin Johnson, Jr. and George Roberson. Honorary pallbearers will be Lawrence McGlamery, David Perkins, Bobby Osborne, Alonzo Perkins, Benjamin Perkins, Roger Perkins, Frank Perkins, Johnny Nave and Anthony Perkins. Military honors will be accorded by the Bristol V.F.W. Honor Guard Post # 6975. Everyone will meet at Hathaway-Percy at 10:15 A.M. on Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
