Kenneth D. Scott, 97, went home to be with the Lord and Savior on June 1, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Kenneth is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Louise Simmons Scott, parents, Allie and Ruby Scott, an infant brother Howard Scott, and sister Evelyn Kyker.
Kenneth was a dedicated Christian and Charter Member of the West Side Christian Church where he served as Elder and Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a member of Leesburg Ruritan for 40 years and received a “Lifetime Membership” at the age of 90.
He spent his life serving the Lord. His desire was to lead others to the Lord. He was a man of prayer and a friend to all. He loved bluegrass music and was very skilled in playing his guitar and singing. He was a carpenter by trade having retired at 73 years of age. He had the honor of overseeing and building many homes, churches, and medical offices throughout his lifetime. He will be best remembered by his love for the Lord and the many lives he influenced.
The highlight of his life was serving the Lord, his church, his family, grandchildren, and neighbors. Even though in his later years he was blind he still had compassion for others the in community, praying and calling upon them by phone often.
Kenneth is survived by his children; Patricia (Sonny) Miller, Nancy (Ronald) Crain, Marie (Ross) Carmack, Mary (Ralph) Edmisten, Michael (Erma) Scott. Grandchildren; Adam (Sonja) Crain, Laura (Chris) Whitaker, Brenda (Scott) Mumpower, Scott (Robin) Miller, Brian (Jessica) Miller, Mary (David) Dowell, Amy Parker, Doug (Megan) Edmisten, Jared (Hillary) Edmisten, Heath (Daniell) Scott, Ben (Britteny) Scott, 11 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, and 5 step grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday June 4, 2019 from 5pm-7pm at Westside Christian Church, Jonesborough with the Celebration of Life Service to follow at 7pm with Minister Ron Whitacre and Ross Carmack officiating. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday June 5, 2019 beginning at 10am at Patton Simmons Cemetery in Johnson City. Pall bearers will be Adam Crain, Scott Miller, Brian Miller, Doug Edmisten, Heath Scott, and Ben Scott, Jared Edmisten.
