A native of Erwin, he was a son of the late Howard Sr. and Margaret Sullins Grindstaff. Howard was a U. S. Army Veteran and a strong believer in Christ. He retired from the Erwin Fire Department. He loved watching sports on TV, mowing the yard, and was an avid Tennessee sports fan. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, V. F. W, and Elks Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Lydia Sullins, and his half-brother, Robert “Bob” Buchanan.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Howard William Grindstaff, Jr. in a graveside committal service with military honors on Monday, June 3, 2019 at 10:00am in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Those attending the graveside service will meet at the cemetery by 9:50am on Monday. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 2:00pm and continue until 4:00pm on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Valley Funeral Home.
