JOHNSON CITY - William Robert "Rob" Phillips, age 93, Johnson City, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019 at The Waters of Johnson City.

He lived most of his life in Unicoi County before moving to Johnson City nineteen years ago. Rob is a son of the late Joseph and Pearl Porche Phillips. 

He was a United States Army Veteran having served his country honorably during WWII. Rob was awarded the WWII Victory Ribbon and Army Occupation Medal (Germany).

Rob retired from CSX Transportation after thirty-seven years of service. After his retirement, Rob began working for Robert Ledford Funeral Home and the former Erwin Memorial Funeral Home. He was a very hard worker and always found projects to work on for his family and friends.

Rob was a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church where he formerly served as a Deacon. 

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. Rob adored his family and spending time with them. He loved trout fishing, UT football, farming and family beach vacations. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Vaughn, Gus, F.P. and Dale Phillips; six sisters: Kate Frye, Lola English, Meg Harris, Valaria Bailey, Ruby Metcalf and Bernice Phillips.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of seventy-two years, Louella Rice Phillips; two sons: Mike Phillips (Linda), Erwin, Brad Phillips (Amy), Knoxville; one grandson, Adam Phillips; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Ninth Street Baptist Church. Dr. Allen Davis will officiate at the 7:00 P.M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Ray Bowman, Grant Bridges and Becky Manfull. Committal will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday in the Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Crain, Dennis Treadway, Shawn Treadway, Roger Rice, Brad Phillips, Mike Phillips and Adam Phillips. Every one is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 A.M. on Friday. 

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made in memory of Rob to: Ninth Street Baptist Church Building/Improvements Fund, 301 Ninth Street, Erwin, TN 37650.
