Gene was born in Johnson City to the late Shelby F. and Eloise Ricker Coffey.
Gene was in the entertainment business working as a stagehand. He loved music, enjoyed meeting all the bands and movie stars. He was a member of the International Theatrical Stagehand Association #699. Gene enjoyed being around his friends and colleagues. He also loved his cat Buddy.
Gene is survived by a daughter Christine Coffey Rice of Arizona; a granddaughter, Areona E. Rice; a grandson, A.J. Rice; 4 great-grandchildren; a sister Teresa Coffey Gillette (Dennis) of Johnson City; 3 nephews, Robert Brandon Hall (Whisper) of Orlando, FL, M. Scott Hall of Johnson City, Kalin J.P. Miller of Johnson City; several cousins and a special friend Connie Moore Knowles, Greeneville, TN.
The celebration of Gene’s life will begin at 8:00 P.M. Thursday, April 25, 2019 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. prior to the celebration.
