When she was 13 months old, her father passed away. She moved to Bluff City, Tennessee, in 1936 after her mother’s marriage to Isaac Paul Boy. The family farmed and operated Island Mill along the South Holston River.
Betty was a gifted musician. She studied piano under Hazel Bailey for 12 years, and she played piano for morning and evening services at Bluff City Baptist Church for many years. She was also a member of the Bluff City Music Club.
In 1950, Betty married Albert Kenneth Carrier, and in 1951, she gave birth to their daughter, Anna Paulette. The family lived in Bluff City. She worked for 30 years as a clerk typist at Sperry/ Univac in Bristol, Tennessee.
Betty was a loving wife, a devoted parent and grandparent, a faithful Christian, a thoughtful gift-giver, a wonderful cook, an excellent seamstress, an ardent Democrat, and a passionate perfectionist.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Carrier (d. 2002); an infant daughter (d. 1965); and her parents and stepfather. She is survived by her daughter, Paulette Carrier, of Bluff City; four grandchildren, Jennifer Armstrong (Dave Krueger) of Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, Bryan Armstrong (Jennifer Lynne), Anna Armstrong, and Cory Armstrong, all of Bluff City; and three great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Benjamin Armstrong and Mirabelle Krueger.
Funeral arrangements are by Tetrick Funeral Home of Bluff City. A funeral service will be held Monday, April 8, at 11 a.m. in the Glenwood Cemetery Mausoleum in Bristol, Tennessee. Reverends Jerry Lyons and Sean Glenn will be officiating. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 AM on Monday. The family is also planning a celebration of life service, to be held June 29, 2019.
