She was a native of Hoboken, New Jersey and a daughter of the late Guy and Mary Margaret Shortt DeMarco. Theresa moved to Unicoi County with her husband, Jack in 1994.
She retired from New York Public School System where she was employed as a Crossing Guard for many years. Theresa was a very active and dedicated member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. She was very involved in the adopted grandparent program at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Theresa worked very diligently to help bring the Catholic Church to Unicoi County. Her joyful work for St. Michael was seen and heard all throughout the community. Theresa's energy and enthusiasm was shared with everyone, everywhere she went.
Theresa was a very active member of Clinchfield Senior Citizens Center. She was an avid volunteer for the Center on Aging and Health. Theresa's stories and life lessons she so loved to share will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her smile, joyful, sweet but to the point attitude brought many smiles and laughter to all who knew her. Theresa never met a stranger!
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandparent, friend and church member.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, John “Jack” Holiwski on January 10, 2017; two brothers, Guy DeMarco and Robert Dale DeMarco; two sisters: Delores Collelouri and Juanita Rocco.
Theresa leaves behind to cherish her memory, two daughters: Margaret “Maggie” LoBue, Erwin and Jean Bifano, Westfield, New Jersey; two sons: Frank Holiwski, Atlanta and John Holiwski, New Jersey; one sister, Rosemary Thomson; four grandchildren: Nicholas Tanzi (Kristine Sabia), Joseph Tanzi (Ali Abella), Michael Bifano and Leora Holiwski; three great grandchildren: Joseph Shea Tanzi, Olivia Kathryn Tanzi and Thomas Anthony Tanzi; several nieces, nephews and numerous friends also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, March 18, 2019 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. Father Tom Charters will officiate. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Committal will be held at Mountain Home National Cemetery on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:45 P.M. on Monday.
