Marion Elizabeth Jordan Butler

Marion Elizabeth Jordan Butler passed away on August 19, 2018. Elizabeth was born to Hobart and Lucille (Rollins) Jordan on October 27, 1924 in Asheville.

She attended Asheville city schools and graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School in 1942. Elizabeth later worked for American Enka Company. In 1950 she married William “Bill” Butler in Asheville. They later moved to Lawrenceburg, TN where their two daughters were born. They lived in Morganton and Marion before settling in Black Mountain. She worked for Dr. James Love and was a faithful member of Black Mountain United Methodist Church.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, sister Sarah, brother Richard, and husband Bill. She is survived by her daughters: Mary Maercklein of Newberry, SC (grandsons Vance of Mankato, MN and Peter of Madison, TN and daughter Nancy (Ernest) Campbell of Johnson City, TN (grandchildren Will of Isle of Palms, SC and Ben and Martha of Johnson City, TN). Other survivors include sister Harriette (John) Gudris of Clyde, NC, sister-in-law Marlene Jordan of Chevy Chase, MD, nephews Erik Gudris, Washington, DC, Chris (Helen) Jordan, Washington, DC and niece Stephanie (Michael) Kelley, Silver Springs, MD and their families. Elizabeth loved her family, her home and church in Black Mountain. Elizabeth’s family would like to thank the staff of Amedisys Hospice especially Vanessa, Katie and Sonya. Thanks also to special Black Mountain friends Mary and Freddie Robinson, Cecilia Adams, members of the Sarah Circle and Johnson City friends Lana Scott, Tammy and Butch Douglas and special care giver Tonya Gillenwater.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Noon at Black Mountain United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael MacDonald and Rev. Rick Mills officiating. A reception lunch will be immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Memorial Fund at Black Mountain United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 517, 101 Church Street, Black Mountain, NC 28711 would be appreciated.
