Joy Weeks Witty

Joy Weeks Witty, 91, passed away on September 7, 2018 at The Waters of Johnson City.

Joy was born in Mississippi, on January 28, 1927. She moved to Albuquerque, NM and worked for the Baptist Convention of New Mexico, where she met her future husband, Fred S. Witty, Jr. They were married on December 28, 1951 in Louisville, KY at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary chapel, and later moved to Johnson City.

She was a faithful, active member of Central Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and the fellowship of her Sunday School class, until her health no longer permitted her attendance.

She loved her family, the students she came in contact with and her church. She worked tirelessly taking care of Fred and her family. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, traveling and was an avid reader.

Joy was a wife, mother and homemaker before being employed at First Federal Savings and Loan. She went on to work at the ETSU library until she retired.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Fred S. Witty Jr.; her parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Weeks.

Joy is survived by her children, Fred S. Witty, III of Johnson City, Elaine Binegar and her husband Steve of Tehachapi, CA, Ann Johnson and her husband Kevin of Vancouver, WA, and her grandchildren, Sean, Kyle and Brennen Johnson, 2 nephews and several cousins.

Friends are invited to the services which will be held at Central Baptist Church on Sunday, September 16, 2018, from 2:00 pm until 3:00pm. A visitation will follow from 3:00pm until 4:00pm.
