Rebecca "Becky" Ann Sherrod Rader

KNOXVILLE - Rebecca "Becky" Ann Sherrod Rader, age 71, of Knoxville passed away early Thursday morning, August 9, 2018 at Parkwest Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.

Becky was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the sanctuary choir and was a committee member in the church. She was born in Johnson City to Dr. Howell Sherrod (Watuaga Orthopedic Clinic) and Alice Elizabeth Simpson Sherrod. She graduated from University High School, Milligan College and the University of Tennessee with a BS degree. Becky was retired from Knox County Schools after 31 years as an elementary teacher. She was an avid bridge player at John T O'Connor Center and Echo Ridge Independent Living. Becky was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter and sister.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Kenneth Earl (Kenny); grandfather, Dr. Charles C. Sherrod (East Tennessee State University President for 25 years and for whom the library is named.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Randall Fleming; son, James Anthony (Tony) Rader; step son, Brian Rader; 3 grandchildren, Harrison James, Landon Kenneth and Tanner Mack Fleming. brothers, Howell Sherrod Jr., Edgar Sherrod and William (Bill) Sherrod; sisters-in-law, Betty Rader Rutherford, Joyce Rader Northern and Helen Rader Taylor; nieces, Amanda, Kari, Kelly, Laura and Lucy; fourth cousin, William Harry Sherrod.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 12th at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church with a Celebration to follow with Rev. Mike Wilkinson and the sanctuary choir officiating. Interment will be in Caledonia Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Ruggles Ferry Road. Serving as honorary pall bearers will be; Bill Pease, Tony and Julie Martin, Bob and Bernie Downey, Vina Carter, Cheryl Smith, Vicki Bunds, Pastor John and Gloria Schultz, Reed and Shirley Morrow, William Harry Sherrod and all other bridge partners.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 6900 Nubbins Ridge Drive, Knoxville, Tennessee 37919.
