Jimmie was born in Roan Mountain to the late Phillip Sheridan Orr and Mary Elizabeth Francis Orr. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by 9 siblings.
Jimmie retired as a school teacher for the Carter County School System and was a United States Navy Veteran, having served in World War II. He was a deacon at Morgan Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and was an avid Civil War history buff.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted wife of 69 years, Ruth Whittington Orr, of the home; two children, Joe Orr, of Elizabethton and Pam Orr Taylor and husband Jim Bryson Taylor, of the Ripshin Community of Roan Mountain; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and one brother, Bill Orr and wife Lill, of Norfolk, VA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Jimmie Lee Orr will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 9, 2018 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Greg Whitehead, officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Thursday.
The graveside service will follow in the Peters Cemetery in the Ripshin Community of Roan Mountain. Military honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard.
